Artist Statement

My work combines the repetition and consistent format of the UK shipping forecast with the ephemeral and transient nature of clouds, giving me a direct scientific anchor in which to then explore and interpret the sky and weather as abstractly or realistically as I see fit.

Within my practice I aim to capture a moment in time, conveying the feelings of the whole environment and my own reaction to the atmosphere, rather than simply transcribing the visual qualities of a landscape. I work outside in the environment I wish to capture, using spit bite on zinc with various resists; with the coastal and shipping forecast as my companion.
